A NEW bus shelter has been installed at a 'very well used' bus stop in Bridgwater.
Bridgwater Town Council has erected the new shelter at the Brewers Fayre stop on the A38, on the left hand side when approaching the town.
The decision to construct a shelter came following requests from residents and workers who use the inbound Bristol Road bus stop for some shelter during their waits.
The issue was first raised by locals at one of at the town council's Tuesday morning drop in sessions at the town hall.
Property Portfolio Holder Cllr Tim Mander (then the Transport Portfolio Holder) said: “I am delighted that after many months of gentle persuasion that the town council have delivered this much needed facility on a very well used bus stop.
"Thanks are also due to local resident Kath Quinn, who originally approached the town council with the idea, and has maintained her interest in the project and will now hopefully stay dry on rainy days waiting for the number 21 bus!”
Eastover Town Councillor Jacqui Solomon added: "So pleased to see this new shelter.
"I have passed by on many occasions to see commuters and shoppers waiting patiently in appalling weather conditions for a bus in this very exposed location.
"Hopefully this will not only increase the comfort of regular users but also encourage more people to take the bus."
