A HOUSE in a village near Bridgwater and Burnham-on-Sea could become the site of a new children's home under plans submitted to Somerset Council.

The applicant hopes to convert Hunstpill House in Burtle to a children's home that offers supported living accomodation for children aged between 11 and 18.

It is proposed that the building will allow up to six children to live in the home.

Plans include a new annex area in the house's garden, which if approved, would provide a space for one additional child who may require 'more individual support in a private environment whilst they prepare to move into the main children's home'.

In the covering letter, the applicant wrote: "The annex will be of temporary construction comprising a containerised two-bedded annex delivered to a high specification.

"It is a temporary structure which will be placed in the garden in one whole piece and can be removed again with minimal effort and is therefore not considered to be development."

Also included in the plans is a proposal for new fencing, and new hardstanding areas surrounding the planned annex.

The application was registered on Tuesday, April 2, but a decision could be made as soon as Sunday, April 7.
