A WOMAN from a village near Bridgwater has celebrated her 100th birthday, marking over 80 years living locally.
Mrs Daphne Yorke turned 100-years-old on Monday, January 22, 2024.
Daphne was born in Toronto, but moved to Belgium when she was four-years-old alongside her parents and brother.
When she was sixteen, Brussels was invaded, so her family fled to London to stay with relatives.
Her move to Cannington came soon after, as Daphne's family relocated to the area to stay with her cousin's family.
Daphne's cousin's husband at the time ran Cannington Dairy, where she began working, and eventually met her own husband, Joe Yorke, when he was delivering milk to the site.
Daphne and Joe got married in 1945, and lived at Grange Farm with their three children, Angela, Christine, and Joe.
Her daughter Angela said: "It was a very happy household, full of love, good food, and wellbeing."
Sadly, Daphne, lost her husband in 1979 and moved to Mon Rêve in the heart of Cannington.
She is now a resident at Stockmoor Lodge, where she is content and receives top quality care.
