TO celebrate World Book Day, children from a pre-school in Bridgwater paid a visit to a local nursing home whilst dressed up as their favourite fictional characters.

Pupils from Little Montessori House visited their elderly neighbours at Avalon Nursing Home to bring some fancy-dress joy to their day.

Once they'd shown off their costumes, the pupils and nursing home residents listened to the story of Three Little Pigs.

Lisa Priddice, activities co-ordinator for Avalon, said: “Residents were smiling and interacting with the children, holding their hands and talking about all their favourite stories when they were young.”

The residents enjoyed colouring activities with the pupils, and also played with various toys, as well as making time for cuddles with William, Avalon’s resident rabbit.

Before they left, the children handed out cakes and jam tarts to the residents, much to their delight.

The children are regular guests at the home and will be returning for their next visit at the beginning of April.

Their visits form part of a full and varied programme of activities organised for the enjoyment of residents at the home.
