CHILDREN across Somerset who are starting secondary school in September 2024 will be finding out which school they will be attending today (Friday, March 1).

If you applied for your child's school place online, you will be emailed with an offer. Those who applied via a paper form will receive an offer in the post in the coming days.

Somerset Council received a slight decrease in secondary school applications this year, 4,772 compared to 4,785 in 2023.

4,465 children (93.56 per cent) received a place at their first choice school.

193 (4.04 per cent) were offered their second choice, while 26 (0.54 per cent) had their third preference met.

Visit the Somerset Council website for more information if you were refused a place at any of your top three preferred schools.

Cllr Heather Shearer, lead member for Children, Families and Education at Somerset Council, said: “At Somerset Council we aim to provide the best possible education for all our young people. We are proud of our services, especially being able to offer such a high percentage of pupils their preferred school place for another year running.

"We wish all pupils the best of luck in this next exciting chapter of their lives.”
