THE Chair of Bridgwater Conservatives recently visited 10 Downing Street after being invited to attend a reception.
On Monday, January 22, Bridgwater's newest town councillor Diogo Rodrigues headed to London for a meeting at the Prime Minister's home and office.
The Somerset councillor and former mayor said he felt the weight of history whilst climbing the staircase with walls adorned with portraits of former PMs.
With the realisation that leaders such as Winston Churchill and Margaret Thatcher had walked the same path through the building, Cllr Rodrigues said the unique connection to the present, past and future made the reception an "unforgettable and humbling experience".
Speaking on his visit, Cllr Rodrigues said: "Downing Street is a very special space steeped in history.
"I had to step back and take a moment to appreciate the fact that so many political giants had walked the same steps that I did!
"I was very grateful to have been invited and it was a very warm reception where we heard about the Conservative Party plans for the year ahead, particularly the upcoming budget which I anticipate to be one that rewards hard work and puts money back in the pockets of hard working people. "
