A PLOT of land in Bridgwater previously used as an abattoir is now up for sale and could become the site of new houses.

The land sits to the north of Old Market Road, almost directly opposite the McMillan Theatre on Bath Road, and along the railway line.

The former abattoir on the site has since been cleared, leaving a 'level site with concrete pads extending to 1.23 acres' according to Carter Jonas LLP Taunton.

It's currently up for sale with a price tag of £450,000.

In February 2021, a since-withdrawn planning application was submitted to the former Sedgemoor District Council for outline permission to build 17 new homes on the site.

It was proposed 15 three-bedroom properties and two two-bedroom dwellings would occupy the 1.23-acre space.

To combat noise from the railway line, the applicant (Marketlux Executive Pension Scheme) had planned to plant a 10-metre bund to provide sound attenuation.

Further details of this plan for the former abattoir site can be viewed by searching the planning reference number 08/20/00203 on the Somerset Council website.
