A short course for aspiring filmmakers is coming to Bridgwater.

Somerset Film’s BFI Film Academy Short Course will run over weekends from January 13 to February 4, 2024.

The course, aimed at 16 to 19-year-olds with a passion for film, offers an action-packed industry experience.

Students will receive masterclasses, career support, and work towards a nationally recognised Arts Award qualification while exploring varied roles in the film industry.

The course's guest speakers will include locations manager Jeremy DeCoursey, sustainability coordinator Lily Limmer, and filmmaker James Holcombe.

BFI Film Academy Short Courses are supported by the Department, National Lottery funding by the BFI, Screen Scotland, and Northern Ireland Screen.

Bridgwater Mercury:

Somerset Film, which is delivering the short course, is a social enterprise established in 1995.

It encourages creativity in using the moving image and digital media in Somerset, and operates The Engine Room, a community media centre in Bridgwater.

They are an Arts Council National Portfolio organisation providing digital skills and services to artists, writers, musicians, and performers.

Tickets for the course in Bridgwater are £25 per person, with bursaries potentially available.
