Former Bridgwater MP Lord Tom King has endorsed Conservative hopeful Ashley Fox.

Mr Fox, who is eyeing to be the constituency's next Parliamentary representative, won the approval of Lord King after the pair met.

Lord King held the office from 1970 to 2001 and was a key figure in Margaret Thatcher's Cabinet.

The former Bridgwater politician said: "I am delighted that Ashley has been selected as the Conservative candidate for Bridgwater at the next election.

"It was never more important that Parliament has Members of experience and proven ability."

He continued: "Ashley is an outstanding candidate, having previously served 10 years as Somerset's Member of the European Parliament and has run his own small business.

"I have no doubt that he will be an excellent MP for Bridgwater."

Ashley Fox could not hide his pleasure at the endorsement.

He said: "I am very pleased that Lord King has given me his support, I am excited to continue his legacy in delivering for the people of Bridgwater.

"I am looking forward to being a strong voice for Bridgwater, Burnham & Highbridge and all our rural communities.

"I want to make sure that every part of this new constituency receives its fair share of investment."
