A NUMBER of schools were forced to close due to flooding yesterday.

Here's a list of closure on Somerset Council's website today (Tuesday, December 5).

  • Hinton St.George CofE School Primary School (December 4-5): Parents were asked to collect their children by 1pm yesterday due to the localised flooding and many staff members living a long distance from the school.
  • St Dunstan's School, Glastonbury (December 5): Due to the adverse weather conditions and various roads being closed, the decision has been made that St Dunstan's will open to students at 9.30am on Tuesday. December 5. Students should go direct to their tutor rooms when they arrive.
  • Westfield Academy, Yeovil (December 5): Westfield Academy will open at 10am on Tuesday 5 December. On arrival students should go straight to lesson 2.
  • Buckler’s Mead School, Yeovil (December 5): Due to the current weather conditions and flooding, the decision has been made to open the site from 9.30am on Tuesday 5th December. Students should please arrive in time for Period 2 and go directly to their lesson.
  • Meare Village Primary School Primary School (December 4-6): Partially closed.
  • The Bridge School, Cossington (December 5): Unfortunately due to the flooding yesterday, it has experienced water damage inside the building at Cossington and is unable to open this site to children today.
  • Ash CofE Primary School Primary School, Martock (December 5): Local flooding and availability of staff means they cannot safely staff the school and nursery in the morning.
  • Chilthorne Domer Church School Primary School (December 5): Fully closed due to severe floods staff are unable to get to school.
  • Martock CofE Primary School Primary School (December 5): Fully closed due to the flooding impacts locally, with some staff and children not able to safely travel.
  • South Somerset Partnership School (December 5): Fully closed. The flooding in the local area means transport is unable to guarantee they can bring pupils to school, and some staff are also unable to safely get to work. Staff will telephone families tomorrow and expect school to be back to normal on Wednesday.
  • Keinton Mandeville Primary School Primary School (December 4-5): Fully closed from 1pm yesterday due to flooding in local area.
  • Crispin School, Street (December 5): Fully closed.
  • Sedgemoor Manor School (December 5-6), Mark: Fully closed. Sewage systems have been overwhelmed by the rainfall over the course of yesterday. This means that we are unable to safely open school site tomorrow as we will have no toilet or handwashing facilities.
  • Kingsbury Episcopi Primary School Primary School (December 4-5): Fully closed. Due to flooding and road closures
