A NURSERY in Bridgwater has been handed a 'good' rating by Ofsted at a recent inspection.

Mama Bear's Day Nursey was slapped with a 'requires improvement' rating by officials at its first and second inspections in 2022, but has since improved in all aspects.

The nursery is now rated 'good' overall and in all areas, despite previously being told to improve across the board just one year ago.

In May, three new members of staff joined the team, including a new nursery manager, deputy manager and early years apprentice.

The quick turnaround appears to be a testament to nursery staff's hard work, as the inspection report details their efforts to ensure children's emotional security, as well as creating a bond with them.

"The nursery is strongly led by the new manager, who has worked with the staff tirelessly since the last inspection to make improvements," the report reads.

"She monitors staff's practice well to develop and improve their knowledge and understanding.

"Staff feel valued and well supported.

"They are confident and proud to demonstrate their good knowledge of the children and the curriculum."

Mama Bear's was also commended by inspectors for helping children to develop their language and communication skills, promoting reading, and encouraging outdoor play.

Some of the nursery's facilities were also highlighted in the report, including the outside 'art gallery', and the race track for the children to enjoy the available wheeled vehicles.

The only ways in which the nursery was told to improve were

  • Provide more opportunities for children to link sounds to letters.
  • Extend staff practice to support all children's understanding and participation, particularly during adult-led activities.
