A NINETY-minute delay to the start of North Petherton Carnival last night (Saturday, November 11) failed to dampen spirits.

Thousands of spectators waited patiently for the fun to start after emergency services dealt with an issue.

It has since emerged that fire crews were called to a reported gas leak on the procession route.

Police and the fire service decided not to cancel the event with crowds already thronging the streets.

And the thousands of people who turned out were not disappointed with the dazzling display.

A spokesperson for the organisers said: "North Petherton carnival committee would like to than the public tonight for your patience and understand.

"Most of you by now will be aware there was a reported gas leak on the procession route.

PROVISIONAL RESULTS.

"This was dealt with by the fire service and we eventually got carnival running.

"Thank you to all clubs for bearing with us.

"You sure did put on a great show once you got moving. Finally to all the officials who helped out tonight. Hope you all had an enjoyable carnival.”

Huckyduck took the honours with their winning December the 25th cart, following up on their top spot in the Tableau Cart Open class at Bridgwater Carnival.
