LAST weekend, I was out and about in Bridgwater covering the carnival, and with all the excitement, found myself in dire need of some caffeine.

I remembered the new 1921 Coffee House & Events Bar had opened on St Mary Street, so I headed over, looking forward to a much needed sit-down.

The exterior of the venue is striking, and the building itself formerly housed the Lounge Danilo Italian restaurant.Bridgwater Mercury: 1921 Coffee House & Events Bar, Bridgwater.1921 Coffee House & Events Bar, Bridgwater. (Image: NQ Staff)

Stepping inside, it was immediately obvious this was the place to be, as the interior was unlike any café I'd ever seen - a predominantly dark colour scheme meant the neon blues of the lights and the bar itself were very pronounced, creating a unique, modern feel.

Although doubling up as both a coffee shop and evening bar, the venue felt suited to either option depending on the time of day you choose to visit.

After being greeted by the very friendly and helpful staff, I ordered an oat milk cappuccino and opted for a delicious sounding Kinder Bueno blondie, before taking a seat in a very comfy cushioned chair.Bridgwater Mercury: The view from my seat at 1921.The view from my seat at 1921. Whilst I waited for my coffee and cake, I admired the beauty of St Mary Street through the very large windows at the front of the shop, from which you can also see the magnificent St Mary's Church.

Handily, the shop had free Wi-Fi available for all customers, and a plug socket was located right behind my chair, meaning I could work and charge my laptop at the same time.

I thoroughly enjoyed my cappuccino, and the blondie was just something else - reasonably priced too I thought, costing noticeably less than the Costa equivalent.Bridgwater Mercury: I'd highly recommend the Kinder Bueno blondie.I'd highly recommend the Kinder Bueno blondie. (Image: NQ Staff)

As I got on with my work, I realised it would be unprofessional not to also test out the bar aspect of the venue, so I was obligated to order a pint of Poretti Lager, which 1921 has available on tap, as well as Somersby cider.

There were also an array of spirits behind the bar, and cocktails available to order, but wanting to keep my composure for the carnival, I decided that would be something to try out on another day.

I will definitely be returning to 1921 Coffee House & Events Bar in future - simply put, it's a very pleasant place to sit and enjoy some tasty food and a hot or cold drink, whether getting some work done, or meeting up with friends - perhaps the best spot in town for such.
