AS Remembrance Weekend approaches, residents from across Sedgemoor have several options when it comes to paying their respects to fallen soldiers.

Here are the most notable events being held across Bridgwater, Burnham-on-Sea, and Highbridge to mark Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday,

Friday, November 10

A 'Poppy Train' will be stopping in Bridgwater and Highbridge & Burnham stations on Friday morning (November 10) to collect wreaths for a ceremony at London Paddington Station.

The Great Western Railway service will mark 70 years since the end of the Korean War, remembering particularly personnel of the Gloucester Regiment and the Royal Fusiliers, who were involved in some of the heaviest fighting.

Saturday, November 11

On Saturday November 11, the Bridgwater Royal British Legion will host a small remembrance service on King Square in Bridgwater.

The service will begin at 10:50am, although those hoping to come along and pay their respects are advised to meet at the Cenotaph at 10:45am.

Later in the day, Peace Pledge Union will host their 20th White Poppy ceremony in Bridgwater.

Those wanting to attend should arrive at the memorial in King Square before 6:30pm.

In Burnham-on-Sea, the flag in Old Station Approach will be lowered to half mast when the clock strikes 11am.

Burnham-on-Sea and Highbridge Town Council organised the ceremony, where locals are invited to come along and join in with the two minutes silence.

Sunday, November 12

In Bridgwater, the local branch of the Royal British Legion will mark remembrance Sunday with a service on King Square starting at 10:50am.

This will be followed by a march up to St Mary's Church for a service, preceding a final march past the Town Hall and back onto King Square for the parade dismissal, where the Royal British Legion chairman will speak.

The annual Remembrance Parade will go ahead in Burnham-on-Sea, helped by their local branch of the Royal British Legion.

It will begin at 10:20am on Sunday morning, and follow a route from the High Street to the War Memorial Hospital for a service and two minutes silence.

In Highbridge, a remembrance service will be held in St John's Church at 3pm, before an 'act of remembrance and commitment' again at the War Memorial Hospital.
