A BY-ELECTION has been called to fill a vacant spot on the Bridgwater Town Council.

The news comes due to the sad death of Councillor Alex Glassford, whose role has been left vacant since he passed away earlier this year.

Cllr Glassford was a councillor for Bridgwater's Fairfax East Ward since 2011.

A by-election is called when ten electors sign a request for an election, as opposed to the vacancy being filled internally by a current town council member.

The election date is set for Monday December 18.

The official Notice of Election will be published by Somerset Council on Monday November 13.

The Electoral Services Team is responsible for maintaining the Register of Electors and running elections, ensuring that they are carried out in accordance with the law.
