HAYGROVE School has issued a statement after MDF tiles fell from the ceiling of a temporary toilet structure at Bridgwater and Taunton College yesterday.

Year 10 students at Haygrove are currently being taught at BTC due to safety concerns regarding the main building at the school's Durleigh Road site.

Some students from Haygrove were reportedly behaving “inappropriately”, causing some lightweight tiles to fall from the ceiling.

No students were injured, and the situation was handled immediately.

The full statement from Haygrove School headteacher Aaron Reid says:  “The health, safety and wellbeing of our students and staff is our top priority.

"Our Year 10 students are currently being educated off-site at Bridgwater & Taunton College (BTC) in a campus designed specifically for our students.

"Unfortunately, yesterday afternoon a small number of students were behaving inappropriately and knocking into the walls of a temporary toilet structure at BTC, putting unusual stress on the walls and causing some lightweight MDF ceiling tiles to fall into the room.

"Both the Haygrove staff on site and BTC staff handled the situation immediately and we thank them for their swift response.

“The site team repaired the ceiling and the toilet facility was fully functioning again within half an hour.

"We will be reminding our students about the importance of exhibiting good behaviour at all times and looking after these temporary buildings, which are currently enabling our students to access their education amidst this unprecedented situation with the Haygrove main building.

"We are confident the facilities are structurally sound and under normal usage present no risk to our students.

"We are grateful to BTC for their support in hosting our students on site at this time and enabling our students to settle in.

"We wish to thank our students, families, staff and wider community for everyone’s ongoing understanding and support at this time.”
