BRIDGWATER Area Cycling Campaign staged a community bike ride as part of a global "protest movement" this weekend.

The Kidical Mass family cycle was the second of the year for the local volunteer-led cycling group.

Families and friends came together to cycle 2.8 miles on the morning of Saturday September 23.

The event, part of the global Kidical Mass movement, aimed to raise awareness of the need for safer streets for cyclists, pedestrians, and children.

A spokesperson for Bridgwater Area Cycling Campaign said: "The sun shone on Saturday, reflecting the mood of our group.

"We rode a short circular route, our bikes adorned with flags and playing upbeat music.

"We smiled and waved and rang our bells as we made our way through the streets of Bridgwater.

"We had a good turnout, including a lot of new faces supporting the cause.

"It's hugely encouraging that parents and the general public recognise the need for a shift in urban design.

"The reception from bystanders and drivers alike was overwhelmingly positive, with people smiling, waving and beeping their horns in support.

"This is our second Kidical Mass event, organised as part of a global action weekend.

"Spurred on by the success of both rides, we will certainly be hosting more in future!"
