NEARLY 30 planning applications have been submitted to Somerset Council for the Sedgemoor area over the last week. 

Proposals include a bid to convert a dwelling into an eight-bedroom HMO (home in multiple occupation) at 52 North Street in Bridgwater

The property currently has five bedrooms and a detached garage along with “external amenity space to the front and rear”.

If converted, the applicant says the property would provide a housing option for individuals working at nearby large-scale projects such as Hinkley Point C and the Gravity smart campus who do not require a traditional family home. 

“Bridgwater has seen significant growth with large scale commercial developments increasing the employment opportunities in the locale,” they said. 

“This has increased public demand for housing, particularly smaller scale accommodation within walking distance of public transport links. 

“The proposed change will help support and meet this demand as the building will change from a single residential dwelling to an eight-bedroom HMO residence.”

An application has also been submitted to build three detached homes on land currently used as a garden and paddock in Puriton.
