A BRIDGWATER supermarket is seeking donations to its ‘little library’ to encourage children to read more books, especially during the school holidays.

Morrisons launched the initiative in May 2021, and the facility can be found between its Community Champions table and food bank donation stand.

Users are encouraged to pick up books for their children, return them and then borrow another.

The scheme has proved popular but books are rarely returned, leading to a shortage.

Writing on Facebook, the Bridgwater Morrisons Community Champion said: “When we started the little library, it was to encourage children to enjoy reading books.

“The idea was to choose a book for free, take it home, read it and return it then choose another.

“Unfortunately, they are rarely returned and the shelves are completely empty.

“If you have any good condition children's books we would love to have them as during the summer holidays children have more time to read.”

Parents who had had a clear-out of their children's books – or have borrowed books but not returned them – can take them to the supermarket's customer service desk.
