BRIDGWATER has been promised its “biggest show in years” when American rock band Wheatus come to town as part of their upcoming UK tour.

The New Yorkers are set to play The Palace Nightclub on Tuesday, October 3 in association with The Cobblestones Pub. 

They will be supported by American rapper MC Frontalot. 

But this won't be their first appearance in Bridgwater; they performed at the same venue in May 2019 during their last run of shows on these shores. 

Wheatus are best known for their cult hit ‘Teenage Dirtbag’, which peaked at number two in the UK singles chart in 2000.

It was only denied the top spot by Atomic Kitten's ‘Whole Again’.

They also enjoyed success with their cover of Erasure's ‘A Little Respect’.

Frontman Brendan B Brown said: “We toured the UK, Ireland and Europe eighteen years in a row from 2001-2019, some years more than once.

“The pandemic has paused that tradition since 2020.

“This opportunity to return is more precious to us than all the other years combined and we’re gonna throw the kitchen sink at it.”

Wheatus are also set to release an expanded 20-track edition of their eponymous debut album on December 1 to celebrate its success over more than two decades.

Brown added: “We found demos of ten more songs from throughout the band’s history that had such an album-one vibe that they never made it onto our more recent records. 

“So now we’re giving them a proper chance to be heard. 

“The new twenty-song expanded version of the album will feature the originally conceived tracklisting and sequence, plus the extra ten songs that have finally found a home on a record.”

Tickets for “the town's biggest show” are now available to buy online – and The Cobblestones pub says they “have been flying out”.
