BRIDGWATER'S Saxon Green Playgroup will be closing at the end of July having served the Sydenham community for over 62 years.

In recent years the number of children attending the Playgroup has declined due to changing working patterns and funding.

Yvonne Paczoski, the manager of the Saxon Green Playgroup says of the closure said:"My staff and I are devastated to be closing after all these years of serving the local community, but the last few years have proved challenging in maintaining the numbers of children needed to cover our costs.

"The playgroup has been part of this community since the estate was built in the 1960’s and it has been a privilege to have worked here for over 38 years along with my sister Sonia, who has worked with me for 35 of those years.

"All the staff have appreciated the many kind messages of support we have received since the closure was announced."

The Playgroup, based at St. Francis of Assisi Church, began when the Sydenham and Bower estates were built and have had hundreds of children in its care during this time, including some families where children, grandchildren and even great grandchildren have attended."

To celebrate all that the Playgroup has achieved over the years there will be a short service of thanksgiving followed by a buffet celebration in the church hall (TA6 4JA) to which everyone is invited to pop in, particularly families, children and staff who over the years have attended or been involved with the Playgroup on Friday July 21 from 6-8pm.
