BOB Buckingham has confirmed he is stepping down from his roles as chairman and commercial manager at Bridgwater United Football Club.

He confirmed his decision at the club presentation evening in May.

Bob has been a mainstay at Bridgwater United since he began the role 7 years ago and has always been a friendly face to go to for fans, colleagues and players.

In an open letter to fans, Buckingham said it has been an honour serving the community at the football club.

He said: "As I announced at the Club Presentation Evening, I will be stepping down from my role as Chairperson and Commercial Manager.

"Since the early days of 2016, it has been my huge privilege to have played a role at our wonderful Football Club."

Buckingham took on the role back in 2016 and has seen the club through Covid.

He added: "Those of us who to take on roles as Officers of clubs such as ours, are but custodians, tasked to ensure that the best interests, traditional values, and passions are, to the best of their endeavours, upheld.

"I hope I have done that."

The job has always been a passion for Bob, and he said at times it took up large parts of his life.

"In the past seven years or so, this club, in each of its most recent entities, has been an enormous and, at times, an all-consuming part in my life.

"It has truly been an honour to work with so many fine people who care passionately about the fortunes of our club. For fear of omission, I will, in time-honoured tradition, say ‘you will know who you are.’"

And perhaps most importantly, Bob said the friendships he has made within the club means he will forever have a place in his heart for Bridgwater United.

"Your friendship has brought me much joy through the many highs, matched only by the support you given me when it was needed the most," he said.

"I will always hold the club close to my heart.

"I wish the new custodians every success and will work with them in the short term to assist with the transition, as they strive to ensure the club grows, prospers, and maximises the huge opportunity that lies before them."
