PLANS have been submitted to build a pedestrian and cycle link between Puriton and Woolavington as part of the Gravity development.

The proposals include outdoor gym equipment, outdoor furniture and associated signage and infrastructure.

The route would be built on private land owned by This is Gravity Ltd. 

The planning application says: “This route, running from east to west, will connect to the Gravity Link Road at the new Woolavington Road roundabout, run in a northerly direction parallel to the link road, turn south west to follow the West Approach Road, then west along Woolavington Road before turning north before continuing on the route on the northern side of the existing hedgerow along the route of the Woolavington Road before accessing onto the Woolavington Road to link to the footway in that area for pedestrians and onto the highway for cyclists.”

The plans have been submitted as part of the Village Enhancement Scheme that must be delivered as part of the Gravity smart campus development.

The proposals would provide a secure and lit route for pedestrians and cyclists travelling between the two villages and the smart campus; bring a public fitness zone for community use, and facilitate “commencement of development of Gravity”.

The 616-acre smart campus, based at the former BAE Royal Ordnance Factory, will deliver around 7,500 jobs across innovative companies working in sectors such as advanced manufacturing, robotics, artificial intelligence and electric vehicles. 

A public consultation on the link began on January 20. Sedgemoor District Council is accepting comments until February 21 before a decision is made on the application.
