A VILLAGE'S impressive floral display created to commemorate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee has raised thousands of pounds for local charities.
Villagers decorated their local church, St Mary's, with a 20-metre tall cascade of homemade flowers they knitted, crocheted and sewed themselves.
The cascade was hung from the top of the church by the Williton Fire Bridgade in June, and it stayed in place throughout the summer.
Now, the team behind the project have revealed it raised £7,875 to be split between St Mary's Church, Mind in Somerset and Children’s Hospice South West.
On Saturday, November 12, leader Wendy Symes was presented with a framed photograph of the Cascade at the church when the total was announced.
She took the opportunity to thank everyone who had helped bring her idea to fruition.
She said: “Each person has contributed something unique and valuable. So thank you. Teamwork made the dream work!”
Wendy was inspired by a similar project at a church in Barley, Hertfordshire, and wanted to bring this fantastic display to life in her home village.
Nearly a year before the cascade was completed, Wendy started an informal group of helpers based at their local pub, The White Horse.
The project took around 10 months to complete with help from members of the community.
