A FAMILY-run charity has raised £20,000 for a children's ward at Musgrove Park Hospital, in Taunton.

The money raised by the Marion Evered Trust will go to Oak Ward to help revamp a play area, provide equipment and also beds for parents to stay with their children if required.

Representatives from the charity attended the ward to present a cheque to Dr Linda Whiteford.

The trust has raised over £200,000 through various events since it was set up in 1974 by Marion Evered following the death of a young family member with leukaemia.

Marion, who was the first woman firefighter in Somerset, used to live next to Nether Stowey Fire Station with her husband, Bob, who was the station commander.

She died in 2020 at the age of 98, but her family has pledged to continue supporting children at Musgrove.
