ONE of the best brass bands in the world is coming to perform in Bridgwater for the first time later this month.

The award-winning Flowers Band, conducted by Paul Holland, is currently ranked as the fifth best in Great Britain and sixth in the world.

It appeared at the Royal Albert Hall on October 15 in the National Championships of Great Britain, where they represented the West of England.

The band finished in fourth place out of 20 of the country's best brass bands - a result that equalled its best at the contest in its 54-year history.

A spokesperson said: “The band will present a varied programme, ranging from music from the hit film ‘Brassed Off’, a performance of a new themed set telling the story of the Trojan War commissioned for the 2022 Brass in Concert Championships, and James Curnow’s ‘Trittico’.

“The band’s star soloists will also be on display with performances from Paul Richards, Lauren Chinn and Emily Evans.”

Tickets will cost £13.50 for adults, £11 for concessions and £15 for attendees aged 16 and under.
