THOUSANDS of people lined the streets of North Petherton for the return of its carnival on Saturday, November 12.
Dozens of carnival clubs, which are all taking part in the Somerset County Guy Fawkes Carnival circuit, showcased their carts on the A38 route through the town.
Three local carnival clubs took part in the procession: Pentathlon CC, Toppers CC and Westonzoyland CC.
Pentathlon won the Tableau Cart Local class with their 'Pentathlon's Travelling Funfair' cart.
Toppers and Westonzoyland finished in first and second respectively in the Feature Cart Local class.
Huckyduck CC won the Tableau Cart Open class, while Gremlins CC topped the Feature Cart Open category.
Marina Sydenham - who also enjoyed a successful night at Bridgwater Carnival - won the Juvenile Cart class with their 'Outlaws & Outsiders' creation.
The carnival says it will announce its local and special awards at its awards evening.
While the procession was a success, police and highways officers closed junction 24 of the M5 during the carnival “for safety reasons”.
This was because of “vehicles abandoned on the slip road and pedestrians in the road”, with the drivers involved facing fines and penalty points.
North Petherton Carnival will come back next year on Saturday, November 11.
