BRIDGWATER Carnival was brought to a close by its traditional finale, squibbing - the simultaneous firing of hundreds of fireworks.
This year, 205 people donned their protective gear to take part in the display in the town's High Street after the procession of carts and performers ended.
They were watched by thousands of spectators, who packed the pavements to watch the two lines of squibbers light their pyrotechnics and hold them aloft.
In the display, squibbers – typically members of carnival clubs – hold their fireworks (squibs) at arm's length facing upwards, creating a spark-filled spectacle like no other.
The squibs themselves are large fireworks strapped to a cosh, a solid block of wood joined to a pole.
Around 100,000 spectators attended the carnival on Saturday night, with some reportedly travelling from Canada, Spain and Cyprus for the occasion.
