THIS winter Somerset Brick and Tile Museum in Bridgwater is welcoming a local author and artist for some special events that take place alongside its popular family activities.

On November 9 the historian and author Lynne Cleaver will be at the museum to launch her new book ‘The A-Z of Bridgwater: Places-People-History’, published by Amberley Publishing.

In the book Lynne delves into the history of the town, highlighting well-known landmarks, event,s and famous residents.

They include Admiral Robert Blake’s birthplace, the Somerset Brick and Tile Museum, the historic port and quayside, and the Battle of Sedgemoor.

Lynne will give a talk at 2.30 pm (£5, booking required) followed by a free drop-in book signing at 4pm.

On 26 November artist Jackie Curtis will be at the museum to deliver a monoprinting workshop.

In this fun workshop participants will use a small portable printing press to produce several prints using all sorts of materials from nets and lace to leaves and bubble wrap.

The workshop runs from 10am to noon and costs £30 (booking required.) On 3 and 20 December families can enjoy some Christmas-themed making activities.

On December 3 children can make a tea-light holder from clay and follow the Christmas cracker trail around the museum.

On December 20 they can paint Christmas decorations and a plate for Santa. Booking is required for all activities (£4 per child).
