NORTHGATE Yard has officially been opened today, Monday, October 24, 2022.

The grand opening was pushed back because of a delay in the final delivery of seats for the venue's seven-screen cinema.

Dignitaries at the opening event included Doug Bamsey, deputy chief executive of Sedgemoor District Council, Alan Bradford, chairman of Sedgemoor District Council, Duncan McGinty, leader of Sedgemoor District Council, Cllr Gill Slocombe and Liz Leavy the mayor of Bridgwater.

Also from Scott Cinemas was Zac Tucker, general manager, and Mark Williams from Scott Cinemas South West.

The new centre first opens with the new cinema complex, operated by Scott Cinemas, and the Brewery Field park, children's play area, and urban wetland.

The cinema has capacity for over 700 people across its screens, which come equipped with Dolby Atmos sound, digital laser projection, wall-to-wall screens, reclining seats, a VIP auditorium and lounge, and hot food served in a café and bar.

The wheelchair-accessible cinema will offer special screenings at a kid's club on Saturday mornings and for seniors on Wednesday.

Councillor Duncan McGinty, leader of Sedgemoor District Council, said: “The opening of Northgate Yard and Brewery Field this month is the fulfilment of a long-held ambition of the local community and Sedgemoor District Council.

“Northgate Yard will now be open to the public from 4pm on Monday, October 24.

“We hope you are excited to see the incredible Northgate Yard and we cannot wait to welcome you in!”

An Allstars Bowling alley and dining hub will be unveiled at Northgate Yard in the coming months.
