A MOTORIST who drove at almost twice the 30mph limit has avoided a ban after magistrates ruled it could have led to him losing his home.

Patrick O'Connell, 51, of Clarks Road, Bridgwater, broke the speed limit on a stretch of the A358 at Henlade, near Junction 25 of the M5 on June 13 last year.

He was found guilty at Taunton Magistrates' Court after denying the charge.

He was fined £830 with an £83 victim surcharge and £300 costs. His total court bill comes to £1,213.

O'Connell received six penalty points, but avoided a driving disqualification under the totting up rules.

A TAUNTON driver faces a court bill of £1,696 for failing to give information relating to the identification of the driver of a vehicle alleged to have been guilty of an offence.

Martin Sage, 48, of Hereford Drive, was found guilty of the offence following a trial

He was fined £969 with a £97 victim surcharge and £630 costs.

He was also banned from driving for three months.

A case against Sage of speeding at 39mph on the 30mph limit along Greenway Road, Taunton, was dismissed due to lack of evidence.

MATUESZ Lukasz Slupczewski, 28, of Mansfield Road, Taunton, has been hit with a huge fine for failing to comply with a community requirement of a suspended sentence.

He admitted missing unpaid work appointments on six occasions between December last year and June this year, as well as a supervision appointment in April. He was find £1,250 to be paid by November 14.

Slupczewski was handed the suspended sentence in January 2021 for driving while disqualified

He has been given a new sentence of 24 weeks prison suspended for 18 months.

OLIVER Keyte, 26, of Morse Road, Taunton, pleaded guilty to breaking the 30mph speed limit on the A358 Staplegrove Road, ,Taunton, on February 6 last year.

He was fined £345 with a £35 victim surcharge and £135 costs, along with three penalty points.
