NORTHGATE Yard's grand opening has been pushed back because of a delay in the final delivery of seats for the venue's seven-screen cinema.

The entertainment venue will now officially open on Monday, October 24, rather than the planned date of Friday, October 21.

The centre will first open with the new cinema complex, operated by Scott Cinemas, and the Brewery Field park, children's play area, and urban wetland.

The cinema has capacity for over 700 people across its screens, which come equipped with Dolby Atmos sound, digital laser projection, wall-to-wall screens, reclining seats, a VIP auditorium and lounge, and hot food served in a café and bar.

The wheelchair-accessible cinema will offer special screenings at a kid's club on Saturday mornings and for seniors on Wednesday.

The cinema - which is replacing Scott Cinemas' recently closed venue in Penel Orlieu - will also screen National Theatre shows and ballet and opera performances.

The changed opening date means it will be welcoming customers from the start of schools' October half term.

A Northgate Yard spokesperson said: “We have had a small delay in the opening of Northgate Yard.

“Unfortunately, the shipping of the final delivery of seats for Scott Cinemas has been a tiny bit delayed.

“Northgate Yard will now be open to the public from 4pm on Monday, October 24.

“We hope you are excited to see the incredible Northgate Yard and we cannot wait to welcome you in!”

Councillor Duncan McGinty, leader of Sedgemoor District Council, said: “The opening of Northgate Yard and Brewery Field this month is the fulfilment of a long-held ambition of the local community and Sedgemoor District Council.

“We have created a town-centre attraction to benefit Bridgwater residents and our local economy and are so proud to see our vision come to fruition.

“We would like to thank our key tenants Scott Cinemas and All Stars Bowling for being part of this journey, the contractors Wilmott Dixon for creating a stunning development, and local residents for their support.

“We wish the Scott Cinemas team well for their opening and look forward to seeing people enjoying the new facilities.”

People who have bought tickets for film showings scheduled for Friday, Saturday, or Sunday will be offered refunds or the chance to reschedule.

The films and times that were scheduled between Friday and Sunday (October 21 to 23) will apply between Monday and Wednesday (October 24 to 26).

An Allstars Bowling alley and dining hub will be unveiled at Northgate Yard in the coming months.
