TWO people have died in a two-car collision on the A38 between Tarnock and Lower Weare near Axbridge, Somerset.

Police officers remain at the scene of the collision, which took place at around 11.20am today (Sunday, September 18).

A man and a woman in a blue Vauxhall Agila died at the scene. Their next of kin have been informed and are being supported by a family liaison officer.

The sole occupant of the other car involved, an Audi Q7, has been taken to hospital to be assessed.

The A38 remains closed in the area while investigators remain at the scene and the vehicles are recovered.

Police have appealed for witnesses or people with video footage that could help their investigation to contact them. 

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said: “Officers are at the scene of a two-car collision in which sadly two people have died.

“It happened at about 11.20am today, Sunday, September 18, on the A38 between Tarnock and Lower Weare, near Axbridge.

“A man and a woman in a blue Vauxhall Agila died at the scene. While formal identification has yet to be completed their next of kin are being supported by a family liaison officer. Our thoughts are with them.

“A man who was the sole occupant of the other car, a black Audi Q7, has gone to hospital for assessment.

“The road remains closed while collision investigators examine the scene and pending recovery of the vehicles. Motorists are urged to avoid the area.
