PUPILS at Edington School took part in attempting to break a Guinness World Record on Friday, March 7.

The record was to join over 250,000 school children across the UK in simultaneously reading an extract from the book Peter Pan in Scarlet, Geraldine McCormack's sequel to JM Barrie's popular classic.

It was also as part of a fundraising event to raise money for the Great Ormond Street hospital, in which Edington pupils raised over £50 for.

The record attempt commenced at exactly 9.15am and Ian Liddell-Grainger MP was ushered in as the school's independent witness.

Anne Baker, Head of English at the school, was delighted with the attempt. She said: "The attempt went very well. Everyone had to read for a minimum of two minutes but we read for three. We had 50 readers in total and I'm very pleased with how they handled it.

"Everyone involved was excited to be part of a world record attempt but we are unsure of when we will find out if we are record breakers."

"Our pupils have really embraced reading, with World Book Day the day previous, and have requested extra reading sessions at lunchtimes as a result."
