SKIFFLE may be a genre of music that is not heard of in the modern day public domain, but the son of a 1960s genre legend will be appearing at the Bridgwater Arts Centre in April.

Peter Donegan, the son of the late King of Skiffle Lonnie Donegan, will be bringing his recently formed five-piece band to Bridgwater on Saturday, April 12 and tickets are running out fast.

Peter, who has inherited his father's considerable musical talent, played as part of his band on Lonnie's last fateful tour and has played alongside Van Morrison and other star performers.

While his band is not primarily a tribute band, Peter will be unleashing some of his father's hits along with his own material, promising a night of high-octane and energetic music.

Host Roger Collett is really looking forward to the event and promises Peter will not disappoint.

He said: "Lonnie was the king of what I call 'mongrel music' - an unconventional style of music that used any household item to create the glorious skiffle sound.

"Peter carries on his father's traditions in his own unique style. He has performed all over the world and will not let the audience down."

He added: "It will be a fantastic evening. Proceeds from the night will go towards Penrose School and collection buckets will be shaken during the interval.

"This is not a night just for those old enough to remember Lonnie, youngsters will be amazed at how much they will enjoy the set.

"A super night is on the cards so do not miss out."

The Peter Donegan Band are a melting-pot of electric and acoustic guitars, drums, banjo, piano, bass, fiddle and accordion, bringing back rock 'n' roll to its roots.

Reserved seats are priced at £14 and tickets are available from the ticket office on 01278-451187 or Strings 'n' Things in Bridgwater. The event is in support of the Penrose Special Needs School.
