Eileen was born in Kildare, Ireland in 1932 to parents John and Mary Smith. She attended a convent school in Kildare until the age of 16.

Her first job was as a Ward Assistant in a hospital where she thoroughly enjoyed her time.

She then went to work in a wallpaper factory before moving to England.

Upon arriving, she became a cleaner for Northgate Lodge and met her husband Fred Haysham at the Lime Kiln Public House.

She has three children - Deborah, Sharon and Sean - and five grandchildren - Sam, Lucy, Felicity, Faye and Luke.

She joined Somerset care in 1960 and has served as a community carer for 42 years - without a single day off sick.

Eileen has been awarded The Bridgwater Cup 2007 for her hard work and commitment after her client's family members believed she needed to be recognised for her work in her role for Somerset Care.
