STUDENTS across Sedgemoor celebrated a fantastic set of GCSE results on Thursday, August 25.
This year’s cohort have faced a challenging end of their time in secondary education, which has been impacted by the Covid pandemic.
Despite this, several local schools achieved record GCSE results and high pass rates.
Chilton Trinity School in Bridgwater celebrated “record achievements”, with its overall pass rate increasing by 16 per cent from 2019 (the last year with exams).
Headteacher Tom Newell said: “Our students worked incredibly hard and showed ambition, resilience, and commitment to achieve these results, especially with the additional challenges that the Covid virus have given to our young people.
“The 2022 leavers are great role models for the rest of the Chilton Trinity team, and they go to their next, exciting, steps with goodwill and best wishes from everyone in the Chilton Trinity community.”
At Robert Blake, 61 per cent of students gained a 4 or higher in English and maths (equivalent to a C under the former grading structure), with 38 per cent gaining a 5 or above.
Headteacher Deb Loveridge said: “We are delighted that our hard-working students have been rewarded with great GCSE results.
“This year’s leavers will be remembered, not just for their well-deserved exam results, but also for their determination, tolerance, patience, and contributions to all aspects of school life.”
In total, 32 per cent of Bridgwater College Academy students achieved a grade 5 or above in both English and maths, while over half gained a 4 or higher.
“You have worked so hard to achieve these results and you absolutely deserve them,” said headteacher Joe Stucki.
"We wish you all the best of luck for the future and please remember that we are always here for you.”
Half of Haygrove School students scored between 9 and 5 in their English and maths exams. 72 per cent scored a 4 or above.
Headteacher Aaron Reid said: “We are very pleased with our results this year for our students.
“So many of our students have exceeded their expectations and that is a testament to the commitment they have shown to school life.”
In Highbridge, year 11 students at The King Alfred School Academy were celebrated for their resilience, positivity, and work ethic.
Principal Dan Milford said: “We all feel incredibly proud of every one of the students in Year 11, as they have performed so well despite the challenges and difficulties of the past two to three years.
“To see happy young people opening their envelopes with smiles on their faces makes all the hard work worthwhile and we really wish all of them the very best of luck on the next steps of their educational journey.
“It is really great to see that many of our year 11 students will be staying on at our wonderful Sixth Form Centre in September.”
