MODEL railway enthusiasts enjoyed an exhibition hosted by the Somerset & Dorset Railway Trust at Edington Village Hall at the weekend.

The trust's 47th Model Railway Exhibition was held in the Sedgemoor village from 10am on Saturday, July 23 and Sunday, July 24.

The event had previously been cancelled twice after initially being scheduled for January 2021 and then January 2022.

The July dates were announced in February, with the trust's members looking forward to attending the event.

The 10 layouts on display ranged in size from 16ft by 3.5ft to 4ft by 2ft, showing the versality of model railways and how they can fill different spaces and rooms.

There were also demonstrations from Andy Watson, Dave Murdoch, and Mel Marshman.

Before the event, a Somerset and Dorset Railway Trust spokesperson said: “Our 47th Model Railway Exhibition is on Saturday and Sunday at Edington Village Hall with a pleasant 21°C predicted. Open 10am with free parking.

“The arrangements are going well and we look forward to seeing friends old and new.”

The trust was established in 1966 with the aim of making sure the Somerset & Dorset Railway - which closed to passenger services on January 1 of that year - would not be forgotten.

The trust now houses artefacts including locomotives, carriages, and museum exhibits.

It also hosts regular events and publishes a quarterly magazine, The Bulletin of the Somerset & Dorset Railway Trust.

The trust's 48th Model Railway Exhibition will take place at Edington Village Hall in January.
