A BRIDGWATER man has been fined £500 after he admitted drawing a trailer with an insecure load that risked causing injury.

Court documents say Gareth Usher, of Polden Street, drove a Scania articulated goods vehicle with a trailer that had “insufficient load security to prevent movement of the load”.

The documents also say the use of the trailer “involved a danger of injury to any person”.

Usher, 33, committed the offence on the M5 near Cullompton, Devon, on March 14, 2022.

He pleaded guilty under the single justice procedure on Tuesday July 5, 2022.

The procedure allows cases involving adults charged with minor offences to be dealt with by a single magistrate on the basis of papers alone without the need for a court hearing.

Alongside his £500 fine, he was ordered to pay £90 in court costs and a £50 surcharge to fund victim services.

He has until August 2 to pay his £640 court bill.

The court listing says his guilty plea was “taken into account when imposing sentence”.

Under the Road Traffic Act 1988, drivers must not use a motor vehicle or trailer on a road when the “weight, position, or distribution of its load, or the manner in which it is secured... involves a danger of injury to any person”.
