AN Indian takeaway in Bridgwater and its chef have recently won awards.

Moghul Indian takeaway in Bridgwater, on St John Street, won the best takeaway of the year award for 2022.

The chef of Moghul takeaway, Nurmiah Choudhury, also won an award, as he was named the best chef of the year (2022) for his authentic Indian curries.

Mr Choudhury said he was “in complete awe” and “gobsmacked” and now the family business has “high hopes for the future”.

Moghul received the award last month, on June 27, and both categories were part of the British Bengal Curry Awards 2022.

Bridgwater Mercury:

Chef Choudhury said: “I would like to thank everyone who supported me, not only on this but throughout my twenty-five years of serving the Bridgwater community.

“I am still in complete awe and gobsmacked, when I first began my journey 39 years ago, I never envisioned myself in a position like this. I am overwhelmed and grateful and have high hopes for the future.

Akmol Choudhury, owner of Moghul, after winning the takeaway of the year award said he was "incredibly proud of my team".

he added: "We are a small family-run business with big hopes and dreams, to have won not one but two awards tonight encourages us to keep working hard and perusing our dreams, as hard work really does pay off.”

Moghul Indian takeaway first opened in December 1996 and has been run as a family business ever since.

After receiving the award, staff at the shop took to social media to thank their customers and send out a message to celebrate their success.

A Facebook post from the official Moghul Indian Takeaway page read: “I still can’t believe this. There should be an award for the best customer base because I’m sure you guys would get it. Thank you for the support.”

The British Bengal Curry Awards “celebrate the success of established and up-and-coming chefs and businesses that help the curry industry to strive and prosper”.

The event takes place every year at The Skylark Hotel In Southend Upon Sea.
