A musical duo from Wedmore, who received international recognition during the height of the covid pandemic, are hoping to build on their achievements.

Rileys Cove, comprising guitar player, Scottie and singer, Chelle, wrote and released their debut single and EP during the 2020 lockdowns.

The local pair received the prestigious International Band Single of the Year award for their original song Without, recorded at Beehive Studios in Westonzoyland.

Scottie said: "We were completely overwhelmed and shocked to receive the award last summer. It’s still really hard to believe that amongst the thousands of members and original songs in the running, a humble acoustic duo based in the heart of Somerset took the trophy."

A year on, Rileys Cove have been back to the studio enjoying a more ‘normal’ writing and recording experience as they record new music, but their enthusiasm remains as high as ever.

Scottie said: "Somerset is full of incredibly talented bands and musicians, so when you receive that kind of recognition, it’s a huge confidence boost, especially when we just do it because we enjoy it."

Chelle said: “There is definite pressure for our second EP to deliver. Winning International Band Single of the Year was amazing, especially as it was all written and recorded in such a strange time when we couldn’t meet and everything was over Zoom - but there’s now a really high bar to reach in all honesty.

"Luckily, I think the new tracks will be well received. We’re both really proud of this EP. You can definitely hear how we’re grown and started to really define our sound and style."

The pair returned to BeeHive Studios in Westonzoyland to record their second EP in December, which is titled Moth.
