TWO motorists from Bridgwater have been handed court bills of over £1,000 after driving without third-party insurance and “otherwise than in accordance with a licence”.

One of the drivers - who committed her offences in Bridgwater - has also been banned from driving for six months. 

The other, who was caught driving without insurance and otherwise than in accordance with a licence in Dartford, Kent, was handed six penalty points.

A woman from Parkway, Bridgwater, has been banned from driving for six months after she was proved guilty of driving without third-party insurance and “otherwise than in accordance with a licence authorising you to drive a motor vehicle of that class”.

Alexandru Popa, 32, was also handed a £1,058 court bill by a magistrate in Bath on Friday, May 27.

She committed the offences in Eastover, Bridgwater, on November 23, 2021, and was proved guilty under the single justice procedure on April 25.

She was fined £660 for driving without insurance and told to pay £90 in court costs and a £88 surcharge to fund victim services. 

Popa was also fined £220 for driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

She has been disqualified from driving for six months “due to repeat offending”.

She has until July 15 to pay her court bill.

Dennis Francis McGinley

A Volkswagen Golf driver from Royal Drive must pay over £1,300 after he was proved guilty of both offences in his absence at Maidstone Magistrates' Court in Kent.

Dennis Francis McGinley, 42, drove otherwise than in accordance with a licence and without insurance on January 10, 2022, in Dartford. 

He was proved guilty on May 26 and was sentenced on the same day.

For driving without insurance, McGinley was fined £660 and ordered to pay £110 in costs and a £110 victim surcharge.

He was fined an additional £440 for driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, giving him a total court bill of £1,320.

McGinley has until June 23 to pay his total balance.

He was also handed six penalty points.
