CARNIVALITES in Bridgwater put the final touches to their tribute to the Queen at the weekend.

They held two full dress rehearsals yesterday (Sunday, May 29) ahead of Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival's Jubilation entry in the Platinum Jubilee Pageant in London next Sunday (June 5).

The 110 people who will be dancing and walking in front of the cart tried out at Bridgwater Rugby Club, while the 32 performing on the cart polished their performance in the shed where the entry has been built.

The 100ft long carnival cart has been designed to reflect regal elements of the monarchy, including the royal crest, crowns, royal carriages and Yeoman of the Guard, with additional links to the Commonwealth.

A total of 200 people have been involved in the construction of the cart to honour the Queen for her 70-year reign at the People's Pageant.

Members from 17 different carnival clubs have been involved in the project over the past 12 months, including 20 engineers, 10 carpenters, 15 painters, 10 electricians, and 6 costume and dressmakers.

The cart, which will be guided around the 3km London route, is being transported up to the capital this week on the back of three lorry transporters

It will go on show locally later this year at the Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival on Saturday, November 5, as well as at carnivals in Highbridge and Burnham-on-Sea, Weston-super-Mare, North Petherton, Shepton Mallet, Wells and Glastonbury.
