A COUPLE has returned from the Polish/Ukrainian border after delivering sweets for children and “put a smile on their face”.

Paul Cotterell and his wife Dawn, from Wembdon, travelled to the Polish city of Przemysl on Tuesday, May 17, to distribute 1000 bags of sweets.

The couple said they had the opportunity to witness “how much help is needed for the people of the Ukraine Crisis” and said they met “smiling,” “happy,” and “more than anything grateful” people.

They said: “Our trip to Przemsyl in Poland with the sweets for the children of the Ukraine Crisis is now complete.

“Our journey was trouble-free, we delivered the sweets to the Humanitarian Centre in Przemsyl, the children were excited, smiling, and happy but more than anything grateful.

“We have been to the humanitarian centre and witnessed for ourselves just how much help is needed for the people of the Ukraine Crisis.

Bridgwater Mercury:

“The number of volunteers from all over the world is unbelievable, we were just a few miles from the border of Ukraine, a volunteer told us she had just come from Lviv, and although air raid sirens still go on there is no bombing.

“The people are going about their day shopping, eating and drinking in restaurants, trying to get back to normal, the humanitarian centre is in need of everything from toiletries, clothes, nappies non-perishable foods etc, also volunteers to help at the centre.”

The Cotterells run a confectionary business called Sugar Rush and came up with the idea of a sweet cart as they “wanted to do our bit” to help Ukraine.

The couple received donations from the local area but also from places as far as Gibraltar.
