A LIBRARY team is embarking on a virtual 5000km walk to raise funds for a hospital charity that will buy smart devices for the patients.
The Library and Knowledge Services team will record every kilometre that they cycle, row, run, swim or walk until they cover the 5000km between the new library’s location at Musgrove Park Hospital and the site of the “mothership,” the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.
This international knowledge centre, sits close to the site of the Ancient Library of Alexandria, which holds a special place in the hearts of librarians.
The initiative is also part of the hospital's official charity - Love Musgrove - 25th anniversary appeal.
A spokesperson for the library said: “Our team will record every kilometre that we cycle, row, run, swim or walk until we have covered the distance of 5000 km between these two libraries and we are asking if you would sponsor our efforts.
“All funds will go directly to the 25th anniversary charity appeal being run by Love Musgrove, the charity that raises funds for our hospital.
“We are especially pleased that some of the funds raised will go towards the purchase of iPads to be loaned to patients on our wards who might not have access to their own smart devices.
“Our partnership work with Public Library colleagues has shown us the value of freely accessible resources such as audiobooks and e-books for the wellbeing of patients who are hospitalised or recuperating.
“Our librarians are excited to step away from our screens and leave our cardigans on the backs of our chairs, while we improve our own fitness and contribute to this fundraising effort.
“We will be most grateful for any donation that you can make towards patient wellbeing in Somerset.”
