THERE'S a new water refill point in Bridgwater town centre.

The facility in Fore Street is currently being tested, cleaned, maintained and inspected regularly to ensure the highest standards of hygiene and water quality.

Hopefully it should be ready for use by the public in the next couple of weeks.

The refill point will allow residents to refill their water bottles while shopping and using the facilities in the centre of Bridgwater.

It has been made possible through a joint project between Sedgemoor District Council in partnership with Wessex Water.

The water refill point is aimed at bringing less plastic waste and littering in the town centre.

Instead of buying a new bottle of water, which creates unnecessary plastic waste, residents will be able to refill their own bottles.

The water refill point will therefore reduce residents' reliance on single-use plastic, in line with the council’s commitment to reduce waste where possible. It follows Sedgemoor District Council’s recognition of a climate emergency.

Kirsty Scarlett, Wessex Water’s head of community engagement, said: “The water refill point has been installed in a great location to keep residents and visitors hydrated.

“This is just one of the many water refill points we will be installing across the region as part of our mission to reduce the number of single-use plastic bottles we all use.

“We are pleased to be able to work with so many local communities which share the same aim of promoting refill over landfill.”
