A MAN died following a collision between two HGVs on the M5 between Burnham-on-Sea and Weston-super-Mare yesterday, police have confirmed. 

The collision took place at around 1:15pm yesterday (Friday, April 29). 

The driver of the other vehicle involved was taken to hospital.

His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. 

Officers have appealed for witnesses of the collision to come forward by phoning the non-emergency number (101) or by filling in their online appeals form. 

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: “Sadly, the male driver of one of the vehicles was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“His family have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.

“The driver of the second vehicle was taken to hospital to be treated for injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.”

The M5 was closed between junctions 22 (Burnham-on-Sea) and junction 21 (Weston-super-Mare) in both directions after the collision until around 3pm, when the southbound carriageway re-opened. 

One lane re-opened on the northbound carriageway at around 3:30pm, before the recovery and clear-up work was completed just after 8:30pm to allow the motorway to fully re-open.
