A MOTORIST has been banned from the road for almost four years for drink driving and driving while disqualified.

Gift Mitshali, 30, of no fixed address, was pulled over by police in Bath Road, Bridgwater, on April 16 this year, when he tested over the alcohol limit and officers discovered he was banned from driving.

Taunton Magistrates' Court heard that Mitshali, who pleaded guilty to the offences, gave a false name to police.

He was sentenced to eight weeks in prison suspended for a year and ordered to pay a £128 victim surcharge.

He received no separate penalty for wilfully obstructing a police officer in the execution of her duty.

A WELLINGTON man who failed to comply with the community requirements of a suspended prison sentence was spared jail due to ill health.

Richard Lewis, 58, of Richards Close, missed three unpaid work sessions and a meeting imposed on him at a previous hearing when he was sentenced for drink driving.

Magistrates hearing his latest case handed him a 12-week prison sentence suspended for 12 months.

He was also subjected to a 12-week curfew between 7pm and 7am daily.
