A MAGICIAN jumped at the chance to help create a magical on-stage proposal during his live show at Bridgwater's McMillan Theatre on Friday night.

Ben Hart, who is currently on a UK tour with his show ‘Wonder’, was contacted by Nathan Richards before the show about his plans for an on-stage proposal to his girlfriend Rosie-Marie Evans.

The couple met at Nathan’s parents' pub around two months before the first Covid lockdown began in 2020.

They had planned to watch a live magic show on their first date, but the pandemic soon put a stop to all live theatre shows.

When Ben saw Nathan’s message, he responded: “Absolutely yes, let’s try and make it as magical as possible.”

On the day of the show, Nathan sent somebody to collect the engagement ring that would later be included in a magic trick in front of hundreds of people at the theatre.

When the show was underway, he invited the couple onto the stage to take part in a card trick.

After he successfully fused some playing cards together, he unwrapped a box disguised to look like a pack of playing cards that contained the engagement ring.

To the delight of the audience, Nathan got down on one knee – and much to their relief, Rosie-Marie said yes.

After the show, groom-to-be Nathan said: “I promised to take her to a magic show as our first date when I met her and then Covid stopped that from happening.

“This is now our first time actually coming to see a magician nearly two years on since meeting, and that is why I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to make it our first date while engaged.”

Speaking about his role in the engagement, Ben added: “I think I was probably more nervous than Nathan, but it seemed to go very well, and the audience reaction was electrifying.

“I can think of no more magical experience to share with an audience than what happened tonight.

“My show is called Wonder and we certainly saw wonder in the audience’s eyes as they reacted to this amazing and beautiful display of love.”

After Ben shared a video of the engagement on his Facebook page, the couple received dozens of congratulatory messages from the magician's fans.

In the comments, the bride-to-be said: "Ben Hart, thank you so, so much for making this such a magical moment I will never forget."
