A BRIDGWATER church is collecting donations for Ukrainian refugees.

Since March 2, St Mary’s Church in Bridgwater has been collecting donations and aid to help all those affected by the war in Ukraine.

The church will be collecting the needed items until March 15, when a lorry will leave for the Polish-Ukrainian border.

Revd Suse Osmond, Vicar St Mary’s Bridgwater and Holy Trinity, said: “We have been collecting donations at St Mary’s since Wednesday, March 2 to send over to refugees in Poland as well as those who have remained in Ukraine.

“The donations will leave on Tuesday, March 15 on a lorry organised by Marius Lubgo to be taken to three different towns, one which is 100 miles from the border, one in the middle of Ukraine, and one just 100 miles from the border. From there they will be distributed by the Red Cross.

“The generosity of the community, donating and volunteering, has been simply amazing. Local businesses, shops, and schools have all got on board.

“We feel privileged to be able to use the space of the church building to facilitate this community effort and as we continue to hold the people of Ukraine in our hearts and prayers.”
